When I was about 4 or 5 years old our family moved several times. I remember sleeping on people’s couches and not having a bed of my own. My father had addiction problems and my mom did everything she could to keep a roof over our heads. For my entire childhood my parents never owned their own home. I would always ask my parents, “When can we get a home of our own and have a yard to play in?” My childhood dream never came true.

My new job doesn’t come with a new home. But it does come with the resources to help me get one! As one of the newest employees of Nevada Rural Housing Authority I have been able to experience what life changing programs this company has to offer. Buying a house is a huge step, and making sure you choose the right home with comfortable payments is critical. I myself have yet to purchase a home, but learning about the many loan options available reassures me that when I find the right home, there will be resources out there for me to utilize.

Since 1988, each city and county in Nevada has received an allocation of Private Activity Bonds (the ability to issue tax exempt debt for a public purpose) from the State based on its population. These are small allocations that most cities and counties don’t have a use for and they end up reverting back to the State. In 2006, NHRA implemented a Transfer Matching Funds program to give counties a way to put these funds to work effectively.
