NRHA Recognized as a High Performer by HUD
The Nevada Rural Housing Authority (NRHA) was recently honored for the management of its Rental Assistance Program by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. For the fourth consecutive year and fifth year out of the last six, NRHA was recognized as a “High-Performer” in its implementation of the Housing Choice Voucher Program, with an overall score of 96 percent.
The program provides rental assistance to low-income families, the elderly and disabled through the federally funded Housing Choice Rental Assistance program.
“We are pleased to be recognized for our efforts to help low-income families, elderly and disabled persons,” said Terry Smith, NRHA Rental Assistance Director. “Our Rental Assistance Program increases affordable housing choices by assisting qualifying individuals and families with the means to afford privately owned rental housing.”
NRHA scored high on a number of performance indicators including providing reasonable rent, correct tenant rent calculations and rental inspections.
“We believe when more Nevadans are able to purchase a home of their own or can find affordable rental units, we all benefit through stronger more stable and economically vital communities,” said Gary Longaker, NRHA Executive Director. “We are pleased to be honored for our management of this critical program, and our board of commissioners has commended Terry Smith for her efforts.”
For nearly 40 years, the Nevada Rural Housing Authority has worked to get Nevadans into safe, comfortable, affordable homes. Through innovative home ownership, home enhancement and rental assistance programs, NRHA has improved the quality of life for tens of thousands of Nevadans across the state.
